The MAIN feature of this fan for me and why I ordered it is how quietly it claims to run, even at the highest setting. I’m acutely sensitive to noise, especially so near to my face, so most portable battery operated fans are a no-go for me.This fan lives up to its description in terms of having a “whisper quiet” motor, since you can barely hear the fan in a room with a normal level of ambient noise, even at the highest setting and that makes me an instant fan. It doesn’t move a whole lot of air — I have portable fans that blow more air than this but do so while making a whole lot of noise in the process — but it moves enough air that I do feel the cooling effect, especially when paired with the misting feature.I did not think I would like or use the misting feature as I thought it would both fog up my glasses and also add humidity around my head which always causes my hair to frizz wildly. I tried it at home as a test and it is indeed just a light cooling mist and doesn’t project so much moisture that it fogs up my glasses or make my hair frizz on end making me look like I’d just stuck my finger into an electrical outlet.I plan to use this when I’m out in the Summer’s heat waiting for the city bus to arrive as they sometimes have long delays as I literally drip with perspiration that sometimes burns my eyes. This lightweight fan is compact enough to fit into my small backpack to take with me everywhere and quiet enough that it won’t attract any unwanted attention — especially if I pull it out to use when I’m having a hot flash. If you plan to use the misting feature, be sure to first unscrew the bottom water container, remove the inner cotton tube and soak it in a glass of water for about 10 minutes so that it is saturated, then fit it back into place, add water to the container and screw it back on. If you omit this step and try to use the misting option, you may think it is not working when it just needed to be soaked and saturated first. One concern I have is the potential for mold to eventually form on the cotton tube if water is left to sit in the fan over time in the heat. To prevent this, I plan on removing the tube each evening and allow it to air dry between uses and then rewet and reuse it each day so that it stays fresh and mold free.
